Tetris Fanart!

Hi Nitromians,

We have just seen some awesome fanart made by Shuey187 over on Youtube. The video is taken from a Tetris game where the Cuboy Icon slowly materializes from the lines of tetronimoes. We are really impressed with the idea, thanks for the effort in doing this piece!

If you have any fan art you have made about Nitrome please do send it in! We love everything we get sent especially if it is our work applied to something we have never seen before.

Wow Nitromians,

We can't belive we actually won, not 1 but 3 awards at the Pocket Gamer Awards!

We won Best Casual/Puzzle Game, Best iOS game and the big one... BEST OVERALL GAME!

This means we beat not only all games on mobile that were released this year but on handheld formats too like the 3DS and Playstation Vita. It is very humbling to think our little team could beat a Zelda game in an award!

A huge thankyou to all that voted for us!

Heres a link to the page with the winners and you can see what we were up against by clicking the 'Nominations' button:

Play A Ghostly Journey!

Hi Nitromians!

Today's Pixel Love game is A Ghostly Journey by Daniel Haslop.

This game has got some great artwork, music and interesting game play elements. You take on the role of a ghost that has to avoid light sources and disappearing forever.

The fun really starts when you begin possessing people to further your journey. The game difficulty isn't too steep and makes for a forgiving and enjoyable play session.

A quick word of warning, there are a few pixelated blood splats here and there in this game, so we thought we'd warn you in advance!

Ditto Update 2

Hi Nitromians,

we have been a little quiet this week but lets go out on a high! We have some new Ditto things to share with you. This week we have started dressing the levels for Ditto and wow it really made a big difference! We liked it so much that we thought we would show you a little before and after comparison of one of the early rooms.

You can see the video of the room in another of our funky little animated gif things and if you want to see it in more detail we have a link to side by side comparison shot that reveals all in crisp glory here:

Play Meat Boy! (Mature)

Hi Nitromians!

Today's Pixel Love game comes in the form of the fast twitch reflex platformer Meat Boy by Edmund McMillen and Jonathan McEntee!

WARNING: THIS GAME CONTAINS CONTENT THAT WE FEEL IS SUITABLE FOR A MATURE AUDIENCE.

Many of you may know that there is a Super Meat Boy game which is out for sale. We thought that it would be great to revisit it's humble Flash beginnings as it boasts a lot of what makes Super Meat Boy so great, although you get much more content from Super Meat Boy. Some levels are as hard as nails, but you get genuine satisfaction from completing them.

Your objective is to make your way to band-aid girl whilst being mindful of a multitude of obstacles and traps.

You can also create your own levels using the map editor to create even tougher challenges!

Have fun, we will bring you another Pixel Love game next week!

Ditto Update

Hi Nitromians,

Ditto is now getting to a fairly advanced state so we felt it was time to show you all a little more with the aid of a funky animated gif.

This is the first time we have tied turning actual footage into a gif so it was an interesting test for that too. I think it worked well and this does not take a long time like a trailer so it could be a good way we will show you gameplay snippets in the future!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Nitromians,

Today we have made a couple of tweaks to the mobile visualisation on our site. More specifically the 'iPhone' tab now reads 'Mobile' with the phone screen adjusted to contain an Android and Apple logo.

We have also updated the 'iTrome' category in the blog to instead read 'Mobile'. Both of these have been adjusted to reflect the fact that, with the upcoming launch of Icebreaker to Android, we are focused on both the major mobile platforms.

With future mobile games we plan to launch to both iOS and Android at the same time so it made sense to make this change.

Today's Pixel Love game is a Ludum Dare 19 entry called Grand Mystic Quest of Discovery by Hulahulahest.

Firstly we need to mention the controls:
Arrow Keys: left/right = walk left/right
Arrow Keys: up/down = climb ladders, read scrolls, enter doors
Z = jump / close scrolls
Q = use spell #1 (once you have it)
W = use spell #2 (once you have it)
(Hold) A = use spell #3 (once you have it)
S = use spell #4 (once you have it)
Ctrl+F2  = restart

We have added the controls onto the game page too.

This game very accurately emulates the C64 graphic style and colour palette. It has very solid gameplay, the elements/spells all work great together to create a set of clever puzzles for you to solve.

Hi Nitromians,

Further to our previous Icebreaker update we realised there is one new feature that we forgot to mention! (Sorry there was a lot already so we missed it). Since launch people have been asking for Icebreaker avatars and were happy to say that come the update you will (if you own the game) be able to use 8 different Avatars based on the mobile Icebreaker universe!

The Avatars will be available from all versions of the game be it the upcoming Android version or iOS. Martin did a really good job on them so I think you will like them when you see them :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

This week's pixel love is a philosophical game titled The Company of Myself by Eli Piilonen.

The game makes great use of the passage of time as a mechanic to solve the puzzles. There are some brilliant ideas that have been explored in this game and that is why it is our Pixel Love choice. The puzzles are very cleverly laid out. The game gets even more entertaining as you start to encounter the levers to open gates.

The storyline is quite deep and makes you think almost as much as the puzzles themselves.

Hi Nitromians,

time for another Icebreaker update! We have some bad news and good news...

First the bad news...after a lot of testing and feedback We are still finding new bugs on Android (Google Play and Amazon store) so that is holding things up...

some of them have been quite amusing though like one where the chains decided to use Vikings for the graphics in some circumstances! We are getting there though so bear with us!

The good news from this is that because this has all taken some time and because we wanted to launch the pack update alongside the Android release is that we are now planning for it to be a full pack update rather than splitting it into two parts which had previously been the plan.

Just to stress the s…

Hi Nitromians,

Today's Pixel Love game is My First Quantum Translocator by Cellar Door Games.

You play as a test applicant testing out the Quantum Translocator 4300 (QT 4300). The test controller "Steve" guides you through a multitude of tests. Shortly after the tutorialized levels, things kind of go up a gear. We don't want to spoil anything for you though!

The main idea here is to use your momentum coupled with the quantum translocator and the environment to solve the puzzles. Some of these puzzles are real head scratchers. Once you understand the basics of how to navigate, you'll be given even harder tests!

This is quite a challenging game, making it very satisfying when you beat the puzzles.

New Game Next Week!

Hi Nitromians,

next week we should have a brand new game for you and it's a good one! I would go as far as to say that its the best twist idea we have had since Faultline and Mega Mash! It is the swapping game that we teased about a few weeks back. It has a new interesting mechanic that is going to make your brains hurt....in a good way!

Also next week we will have an Icebreaker update to let you all know what is happening there.....a juicy update that I hope you will all appreciate!

As a final note this week we have been talking about the possibility of running a Nitrome Game Jam. Everyone seems keen on the idea in the office and we would nicely split into 5 teams of two. We haven't ironed out the details yet so if you want to throw in your thoughts for a jam please do let us know what you think in the comments below.

Have a great weekend everyone!
